Wimbledon 2011 – Women’s Final Day

Over the weekend I was lucky enough to have received some Wimbledon tickets for the women’s final on centre court. It was my first visit and experience of seeing the tennis on centre court with the roof firmly open due to the gorgeous dry, sunny weather. The final was between Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova which started with them warming up on court at 14:00hrs.

Maria Sharapova went in to the game as favourite for the title which she first won in 2004. There was a great atmosphere at the All England Lawn Tennis Club for the final which Petra Kvitova won in straight sets 6-3 6-4 against the former champion from 2004.

After the women’s final, there was the men’s and women’s doubles finals, so a great afternoon of top quality tennis.

These are some of my favourite photos from the day and please feel free to leave any comments:

Autumn Colours 2010

There are some amazing autumn colours out there this year. These are just a few I’ve had a chance to edit from various walks around Surrey over the last few weeks.

Bluebell Walks, Surrey

All these bluebell photos were taken in May 2009 & 2010 on different days and at different times of the day. It was a very early start to get some of the dawn photos as I needed to walk for 40 minutes to get to this location near Guildford.

The camera was mounted on a tripod, a wired remote was used and mirror lock-up was also turned on to minimise any vibrations, especially as some of the shots were at ISO50.

These are some of my favourite photos from the set, please click on the thumbnails to see larger photos and thanks for looking:

Lake District, Cumbria

These are some of my favourite photographs taken over several visits to the Lake District with my girlfriend, Caroline during 2009. Walking in this glorious part of the country, it’s a serious matter of traveling with minimal photography equipment as it can become exhausting with the added weight. As well as photography equipment, it’s also advisable to walk with other basic survival equipment, such as water, snacks, warm and waterproof clothing, maps and comfortable walking boots are essential as you can sometimes be out for a long time without even realising it.

Guildford under Snow, Surrey

While the country ground to a halt over the last few weeks, it was a great opportunity to get out and about with my camera around Guildford, Surrey. I managed to get out for a 4 hour walk in the snow on a beautiful sunny day while over 12 inches of snow lay on the ground on parts of Pewley Down and St. Martha’s Hill.

Photography in Public Places

Almost everyday you hear stories of photographers being harassed for taking photos in public places, sometimes cameras being confiscated or being asked to delete images. Know your rights and read this very useful guide, now version 2 from Simon Moran or check out the latest downloadable pdf file from HERE.

There is also another useful guide regarding photography from the Metropolitan Police found HERE and please all sign this petition regrading how the government plans to amend copyright protection for photographers. The petition can be found HERE.
